Senior pupil Adele (Adele Ekzarkopulos) gets the novel with the attractive guy, but does not feel satisfied. On the contrary, the casual kiss with the girl strongly gets it. When Adele together with the friend gay comes to «nonconventional club», it gets acquainted with sinevolosy Emma (Lea Seyda), the student artist from Institute of fine arts. Girls fall in love each other at first sight and soon start to sleep together, and over time and together to live. However Adele does not feel with-it among Emma’s bohemian friends, and Emma cannot understand, why her beloved works as the teacher of calligraphy, instead of tries to become the writer.
Giuly Maro started to draw the comic strip «Dark blue – the warmest color» in 2004 when she was 19 years old. It spent five years for creation of 160-page work
Noisy western delights apropos «Adele» and handed over to founders of a picture Cannes Film festival "Golden Palm" in Russia can be interpreted Lives doubly. It is possible to decide that it is a new masterpiece of world cinema and faultless statement on a hot topic, and it is possible to consider that the western bohemia followed the tastes of a gay lobby and inflated an elephant from usual мелодрамки which anybody would not notice if Emma called Philippe. The truth, as usual, is in the middle. «Life Adele» – not the simple melodrama, but it and not a masterpiece. First of all, because "Life" suffers from a heavy form of «a syndrome of the Solaris».
After the film won the main prize Cannes, Lea Seyda and Abdelatif Keshish publicly quarreled. The actress declared that felt as the prostitute when it was shot in picture sex scenes, and Keshish answered that world famous stars have not the right to complain that they agree to do on sets
What it for a syndrome? It when the writer composes the book about one, and the ekranizator shoots film about absolutely other, sometimes the completely opposite. In a case «Lives Adele» the hitch appeared that director Abdelatif Keshish and Giuly Maro’s who has drawn the comic strip based on a picture the artist (well, «the graphic novel») «Dark blue – the warmest color», differently look at the European society.« White» Maro’s lesbian considers that in Western Europe the homophobia is strong, and the French Arab hetero Keshish believes that the homophobia is almost won, and here class contradictions still oho-go! According to Maro thought up the comic strip how the female novel collapses under the pressure of a homophobia, and Keshish threw out a half of subject turns of a narration (for example, a key scene in which the father refuses the heroine and turns out it) and considerably weakened the gomofobny scenes kept in films. Then the director filled the formed emptiness with the numerous dinners showing a social inequality between Adele which eats a doner kebab and macaroni, and Emma who absorbs oysters and wine. Also to a course there are conversations on art («Egon Schiele you know? You do not know? You have a rest!»), about professions («The school teacher? And I am an actor!») and other sometimes unevident ways with which the modern elite separates itself from plebeians.
If «Life Adele» was initially created counting on demonstration of class barriers, Keshish could create faultless cinema. But he перекорежил a narration on absolutely other subject, and "Life" resembles the brick house which after bomb hit somehow repaired panels. Obviously tightened, hardly dramatic (up to culmination scenes in which the film wakes up and "lights") with sagging subject lines and suddenly appearing and disappearing minor characters … "Life" informs cinema put in it the director of idea, but does it so clumsily that it would be desirable to cry.
