The ability which has lost as a result of an illness to move normally Lena becomes the schoolgirl of a remedial class of the next school. To it it is difficult with the slow carriage in new conditions, but it finds a common language with schoolmates soon and even has new unusual a feeling of love for Anton. The correctional class constantly is under control of teachers, but by and large nobody wishes to pull such loading on itself(himself), and the class considerably lags behind contemporaries. Lena convinces new friends that study is necessary to them more than to teachers though itself thus it appears is betrayed and humiliated.

Once the Soviet cinema was famous for the unusually strong, shrill films about school, about grown wise for experience teachers and the new generation opening the world of adults. On «Let’s live till Monday», "Big change", "Draw", "Effigy", «Dear Elena Sergeevna» generations behind generations grew, classes behind classes were issued, the young audience recognized themselves in boys and little girls behind school desks, adults like a generation gap. Together with reorganization of the Russian cinema the school subject was washed up from among profitable, discussed, popular subjects in a cinema. But an urgency did not lose. And, probably, it is symbolical that new films about school are shot by new generation of directors. It is correct, this new birth, is new hope.
On the 25th open film festival "Kinotavr" the film was awarded by a prize for the best debut, and also received the main award from jury of film film distributors
"Remedial class" Ivan Tverdovsky hurry to carry to the category of arthouse pictures, what usually the audience tries to avoid, being afraid of immersion in the gloomy world of authors of the next festival masterpiece. "Class", certainly, too not sugar candy on a stick, but, at all gloom of subject and the events on the screen, it is far from complete immersion in a decay and a hopelessness. The most part of a picture the viewer looks with pain, with fear, with experience, but also with hope. With a pure feeling, with feeling of any highest justice, let and being expressed that boys and little girls too happen to physical defects are in own way happy. These moments of euphoria constantly interrupt the next wave of problems, scandals, the conflicts, but expectation of a happy end remains – well simply there should not be differently a history with such bright characters, with such structure of events, with such nerve and passion. Should not, but it develops, alas.
The Tverdovsky showed to the viewer such world which usually we try not to notice: we take away eyes on the street, we do not pay attention to problems of persons with limited possibilities, we do not penetrate into their simple daily problems. The director even exaggerates this unconscious boycott – his heroes study in the separate wing of school fenced with a lattice, they are derelicts in a schoolyard, from them teachers and parents jump aside. The film in general is filled with symbols, such, for example, as carrying by by a train, emphasizing disorder of heroes, their distancing from other world. But also feelings of pupils of "Remedial class" from it become even brighter – love, hatred, nonsense, treachery, rage and fear are shown by the bared nerves. Disabled people as are defenseless before the outside world, so and are vulnerable in the world internal.
Fantastic work on depth was shown by leading actors of a picture who actually acted as debutants in big cinema. Improbable Maria Poyezzhayeva gives to the audience the character of such power and depth that each its emergence in a shot interrupts breath. Philippe Avdeev with such ease gains both the heroine, and the audience that seems as if you knew this guy always. All class, all environment of Lena and Anton becomes soon, close. And the outcome is more terrible than subjects.
Outcome, unfortunately, unique small minus of a picture. While inevitable as comparison the French and Estonian films "Class" with the same name to the ending leave on peak of experiences, the film Tverdovsky finishes is crumpled and passes to parable and metaphor level rather, than deafens by realism. It is not necessary to abuse for it, probably, it only a reason for dialogue of the audience among themselves and with founders of a tape, but unexpected change of mood slightly will wound, as if the author did not tell all truth, preferred to get off with an ending convenient to it.
