Having seen enough of domination of migrants in workers of quarter of Madrid and under the influence of the big brother, Julian enters a gang of the neo-Nazis trading in riots and beating of those who to them not on temper. The young man is fond of boxing and once starts to train under the direction of the former talented athlete, and nowadays the drunkard and the homeless who is spending the night in the sports hall. Sports and wisdom of the trainer change Julian – it keeps away from a gang, falls in love with fine Alice, among his friends there are black. But the past is not ready to release it, the big brother and the respectable think-tank the nazi of group Solis threaten to punish the traitor …
The picture opens a magnificent scene – a monologue of hero Javier Bardem. His character from a tribune tells to group gathered round youth about multiculturalism problems, about impossibility of assimilation and integration of visitors, about the social and economic problems of Spain caused by tax burden, fallen upon hard-working indigenous people to support migrants. Convincing speech gets not only heroes, but also the audience and when to its solemn culmination fists are compressed in silent support of words of the fighter for justice, Bardem’s character suddenly throws up a hand in a nazi greeting and all its arguments turn around not incentive to solve problems by negotiations, quotas and laws, and an appeal to destroy show-windows of migrantsky benches and to beat people with other skin color, language and the passport.
This starting point could serve as start for the most different stories: a growing and reconsideration of nazi views as at Tony Key in «The American history X» fifteen years ago, or rigid demonstration of an inner world of the gang, the unique which fastening element is hatred that ours «Russia 88» showed Pavel Bardin. Alas, hopes of a deep and bright picture thaw with each subsequent turn of a plot. Authors did not begin to go deep into the reasons of accession of brothers to a gang of nazis (the short episode about swearing parents for this purpose is obviously insufficient), did not wish to open character of the puppeteer operating teenagers and young men for the fascist purposes. No, the director of Santiago Sannou preferred to curtail sharply from social sphere into romanticism, and the hot and sore subject was replaced with a banal stamp «by the hooligan falls in love and leaves gang». Very disputable simplification and quite pity attempt to hide the head in sand. Having put difficult, heavy questions for discussion at the beginning, already to the middle the film from them waved away and pretended that from all problems will save the world, friendship, a cud. It is a pity.
