At the 27-year-old dancer Francis Halladey (Greta Gervig) full of problems. It vegetates in an alternating cast of troupe of modern dance, it does not get on the relations with the boy friend, it hardly finds money for room payment in New York, and for the young woman she drinks too much. Its unique outlet in life – the flatmate and the best friend Sofie (Mickey Sumner). They constantly together – "light", complain of life and guys, dream of dizzy success. Suddenly Sofie declares that moves to the boy friend banker. Then she ceases to devote the girlfriend in the secrets. Frances perceives it as treachery, and the offense pushes it on even more rash acts, than usually.
Whether there is a female friendship? It definitely meets in life and regularly appears on TV. At cinema the man’s friendship, however, dominates. There is even a term "bromantika" (bromance) describing the close, devoted, selfless man’s relations of characters (a typical example – Sam and Frodo in "Lord of the Rings"). That fact that the similar term for women does not exist, speaks for itself. Female friendship for Hollywood not a priority as the majority of meynstrimny film heroines spend time in the company of men. Remember at least "Avengers".
Greta Gervig became the coauthor "Mila Frances" and finished work on the scenario before was decided that she will play a title role
«Dear Frances», however, not meynstrimny, but arthouse statement, and it is almost completely concentrated to female friendship. The header heroine leaves the boyfriend at the beginning of a tape and new does not get. Instead she at first tries to keep proximity with the best friend, then not too successfully tries to make friends with the guy (the new flatmate), then looks for the help and a consolation at acquaintances and the former girlfriend who went long ago to Paris … And all because when you live in the gadenky world of the New York intellectuals where all each other smile, but constantly designate border between "udachnik" and "losers" and are tirelessly measured by different bodies, it is very important to have at least one person who does not need to answer «OK!» on the question "How are you doing?" and before which it is possible to reveal completely, knowing that he will not condemn you and will not humiliate. And, on the contrary, will support and will reveal in reply.
The performer of a role Sofie Mickey Sumner – the daughter of the British singer Sting. Its real name – Gordon Sumner
As the film about need for sincerity and friendship, «Lovely Frances» – strong and convincing statement. Unfortunately, in all other relations it is the banal, dressed in rags and dullish New York tragicomedy filled with habitual moaning concerning the high prices for room rent, weak career prospects (And that you want if became the dancer? The prima can be only one!) parents not quite understanding thin art soul, the "wrong" guys and to volume of the similar problems pursuing every first heroine of similar statements if it is allocated with restless nature and the Rich inner world. However, the picture receives bonus points for disarming charm of the new princess of the American art house of Greta Gervig, for humour and malice of some scenes and for atypical for Noya Baumbakh’s tapes warmth (the director worked over the scenario in a co-authorship with Gervig). But many of them should be taken away for an episode in which the heroine being drunk urinates in the subway. Artistic impetuosity – not a justification for disgusting hooliganism. And when the film is under construction round the heroine who not always causes sympathy as itself asks for troubles, it is not necessary to remind once again that princesses too have a bladder.
