At the end of the first film Josh (Patrick Wilson) returned the son from the other world, however itself to find the road did not manage back – his body was occupied by a certain illusive essence. The spirit is glad to possibility again to feel live and wants only one – to live as ordinary people, but in the house Lambertov strange things, and Josh’s people around people again start to occur start to suspect that with it something not so.
Between the first and the second films passed two years because producer Jason Blum waited for director James Van and the screenwriter Li Uonnela – he wanted to do a sequel only with their participation
Once short-sighted critics explained cash success of "Saw" brutal cruelty – in fact, "Saw" entered into a lexicon the term «a pytochny porno». But James Van made a knight’s move and instead of developing success in its sequels, started one more franchize, in any sense opposite to "Saw". "Astral" – too a horror, but almost completely "bloodless" that allowed it to receive in hire the softest age rating of PG-13, provided to it an outstanding box office. «An astral 2» Van should finish career in horror films to be switched to other cinema (the Forcing 7» becomes his following picture «), and this peculiar summarizing under the long period in life of the director – some kind of thesis on a subject «To that I learned in ten years from "Saw" to "the Astral 2"».
The budget «the Astral 2» more than three times exceeded costs of the original film, but in the first day of hire the sequel completely paid off twice
And Van learned, it is necessary to give it due, to much. So surely and consciously, as Van works with scene composition, the chamber and a sound, in modern genre Hollywood units work – stage settings it builds irreproachably, and even ordinary receptions (reflection in a mirror!) in its execution do not irritate. Especially impress, apparently, banal scenes in which heroes wander on the house – we see a little more than they, but thus as if lead us by hand, is constant, unceasing feeding with fear of characters. "Bu" – the moments without which in such cinema anywhere, even serve as a peculiar discharge – well glory to gods, at last chilling horror of expectation ended!
It is pleasant to see that Van did not refuse a difficult ending of the first film and continued a plot from that place on which stopped. The scenario of a sequel turned out "heated more up", but the feeling of overdose does not arise – authors divided heroes into some groups and gave out everyone the line. As a result someone digs in last Josh’s secrets, someone tries to call to the aid a ghost lost in the first picture Elise (Lin Shay), and Josh’s wife (Rose Byrne) simply dreams not to go mad in the house which, apparently, does not sleep now at all. The narration is continually switched from one group to another, thus Van achieves surprising effect – the plot minutes is not necessary on a place, but moves ahead exclusively "terrible" scenes.
